Is there a need for a facility like this?
Yes. According to the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (SGMA), the #1 source for sports research, team sports participation increased 15% from 2007 to 2008 with over 146 million athletes in the United States. According to their 2009 research report;
• The top four Most Popular sports remain unchanged

- Basketball - 26 million athletes

- Soccer - 19 million athletes (also the second Fastest Growing sport over the past year at 16%)

- Baseball - 15 million athletes

- Football – 15 million athletes
• Volleyball is the Fastest Growing sport over the past year at 17% with 8 million athletes. Illinois has also become a hotbed for girls volleyball touting 11 of the top
100 national teams.
• Lacrosse continues to be the Fastest Growing sport over the past 8 years at 117% with over 1 million athletes, and becomes an IHSA sanctioned sport in
2010-11.
Who can use APEX?
APEX will be open to all area residents, athletes and teams. Usage will primarily be done by rental/lease agreements with area sports organizations, high schools, colleges/universities and park districts. APEX also plans to accommodate sports and recreational programs for parents & tots, adults, seniors and disabled, as well as non-sport events and activities.
How many athletes and spectators will APEX be able to accommodate?
Total capacity will be over 1,200, with spectator seating planned for each venue.
Will coaching be available?
Absolutely. APEX is planning have resources available to provide instruction to any level of athlete. APEX is also planning to host coaching clinics to area coaches.
What non-sporting events and activities can be supported?
APEX is planning to support any and all private, local, corporate, convention, city, civic or county event or activity including parties, team-building, special events, etc.
What non-IHSA (Illinois High School Sports Association) sports can be held?
APEX will be looking to organize a variety of recreational activities that will be of interest to local residents ranging from ultimate frisbee, frisbee golf, indoor cricket, flag football, Baggo/Cornhole, 16” softball, broomball, etc.
What sports will be available for the disabled?
APEX plans to support multiple sports for the disabled centered around Special Olympic and Paralympic sports.
